In China Basin, there is a fence on Terry a Francois st with flowers and stuffed animals. The initials "TG" are woven into the chain link. It is near the Mariposa pier or wharf or whatever. Does anyone know the history of that spot?

Tue, January 9, 2007 - 8:12 PMDon't know for sure, but I bet "TG" stands for the initials of the young Giants fan who was murdered after leaving a game at Pac Bell Park. Here's the story of his senseless death: sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi
It was probably Timmy's birthday recently and his family and friends were probably honoring his spirit and memory. -

Wed, January 10, 2007 - 11:03 PMhmm,
I drove by this AM and it wasn't as close to parking lot "A" as I thought. Because of the placement or the stuff on the fence, I always thought it was a drowning.

Wed, January 10, 2007 - 1:51 PMTG...hmmm...well, that can mean:
(1) transgender
(2) Tavern Guild, a longtime association of gay bars that provided legal help to people busted in and around gay bars back when the police used to harrass folks for being gay.
But as for flowers and stuffed animals, probably someone died there. Jeez, I'm so tired of memorials for dead people. If every person were so memorialized there'd be no place to walk. It's funny that there is this Chinese superstition that prevents people from moving into a home where someone has died. Well, DUH...until the last 80 years or so when hospitals became the place to go when sick, most people died at home, and it's likely someone has died in every home more than 80 years old.

Whatever. There's a fact of life here: People die. They get killed; they die of accidents. It's gotten so that a person can't drive a highway or walk down a street without seeing memorials to people. And as often as not the people putting up these memorials don't even know the people who died. One case in point was the death of a girl in a traffic accident in Santa Rosa. She and her family weren't from the area; nobody knew her. But there was a memorial up on Highway 12 within a matter of hours. Why? Well, the Press Democrat newpspaper had published a story stating that her teddy bear had been visible in the wreckage.
Now, as to Capp Street, well, it can be a violent place. SF is not Disneyland, as I often tell people. It is a hard city. To quote philosopher Rush Limbaugh: "San Francisco is the pretty whore who won't love you back."
Sorry, but people die.

Maybe I'm just cavalier about death, having experienced so much of it in my life -- both my parents by the time I was 22 (left alone with no siblings), two boyfriends (both in traffic accidents), about 70 friends and acquaintances to AIDS, etc. While there are lots of people I miss, life does go on and it's necessary to put the past behind and get on with today and tomorrow.

Mon, October 13, 2008 - 1:19 AMRest in peace, Timothy Griffith. As your killer was recently sentenced to 16 years to life in prison, some 4 years after he stabbed you to death for bumping into his car.
