The San Francisco Appreciation Society invites you to the opening of our annual series of mixers by Golden Gate Park statues.

The first in the monthly series (of three) will take place at the Robert Burns statue, which was finished in May of 1906--exactly 101 years ago and a mere month after the great earthquake. It just might have been the first statue presented to the city after the disaster!!!

The ceremony will include a celebration of the life of the poet (who wrote the seminal version of John Barleycorn, which was read by Jack Hirschman at our last event), selected readings of Burns' works, and a look into the who's, what's and why's behind the statue's existence.

And of course, there will be much camaraderie, special guests, honorees (which will be announced soon), and toasts featuring the words of Burns--as spoken through the hearts of San Franciscans.

To read some of Burns' poetry: www.robertburns.org/works

THE ROBERT BURNS STATUE IS LOCATED ON JOHN F KENNEDY DRIVE, between the Conservatory Of Flowers and the De Young Museum on the SOUTH SIDE of the street (east of the John McLaren Rhododendron Dell).

The event is free and open to all with a love of San Francisco and it's glorious history.
